Pakistan Records Significant Improvement in ITU ICT Development Index 2026

Pakistan has achieved a significant milestone in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) ICT Development Index (IDI) 2026, reflecting substantial progress in the country’s digital transformation efforts.

According to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Pakistan’s IDI score has increased from 56.4 to 67.7, marking an impressive 20 percent improvement.

The country also registered a 22.8-point increase in the connectivity component of the index, while its Meaningful Connectivity Score rose to 79, highlighting improved access to digital services and communication infrastructure.

Pakistan’s derived position in the global ICT Development Index also improved by an estimated 27 places, underscoring the country’s steady progress in expanding digital connectivity and technological development.

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja described the achievement as a major milestone in Pakistan’s Digital Pakistan journey. She said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has made the IT and telecommunications sector a national priority.

The minister said improved digital connectivity would create new opportunities for young people, students, freelancers, entrepreneurs, and businesses, while accelerating Pakistan’s digital economy.

Shaza Fatima Khawaja reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing better, more reliable, and affordable digital services across the country to ensure greater access to technology for all citizens.

She added that Pakistan’s improved standing in the ITU ICT Development Index sends a strong and positive signal to international investors and global technology companies, further strengthening confidence in the country’s growing digital ecosystem.
