Safe Smart Cities Project to Expand to Union Council Level

Lahore: MNN: The Punjab government has decided to further expand its system of citizen protection, crime prevention and technology-based surveillance across the province. In this regard, preparations are underway to extend the Safe Smart Cities Project to every tehsil and union council across Punjab.
The primary objective of the initiative is to improve law and order, traffic management, crime monitoring and public safety through the use of modern technology across the province.
Under the Safe Smart Cities Project, modern surveillance cameras, command-and-control systems and advanced communication technologies will be integrated to ensure the timely detection of suspicious activities, crimes and emergency situations.
Following the expansion, the surveillance system, which has largely been concentrated in major cities, will be extended to smaller cities, tehsils and union councils. The initiative is expected to provide modern security and monitoring facilities in rural and semi-urban areas as well.
The new system will also assist police and other relevant institutions in preventing and investigating crimes. Digital surveillance and modern cameras will enhance the ability to monitor the movement of suspicious individuals and vehicles, keep an eye on sensitive locations, and collect evidence following incidents.
The Safe Smart Cities Project will also play an important role in traffic management. Surveillance at major roads, intersections and sensitive locations will help improve traffic flow, identify accidents and traffic violations, and facilitate a rapid response during emergencies.
The expansion of the project to every tehsil and union council in Punjab will pave the way for a comprehensive digital security network, aimed at making modern technology an integral part of the security system at both urban and local levels.
According to the government, expanding the project will help integrate traditional policing with modern technology and strengthen efforts to provide citizens with a safer and more secure environment.
With this expansion, the Safe Smart Cities Project is moving beyond major urban centres to the tehsil and union council level, marking a major step towards strengthening Punjab’s security, surveillance and public safety infrastructure.
