ISLAMABAD (MNN); A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) officer, Group Captain Asim, was martyred after intervening to rescue a woman from an alleged abduction attempt in Islamabad, according to preliminary information and police.

Initial reports suggest that Group Captain Asim was driving along Ninth Avenue when he noticed a man on a motorcycle forcefully pulling a woman by the hand. Sensing that something was wrong, he turned his vehicle around and stopped near the motorcycle to intervene.

According to eyewitness accounts, the woman immediately ran to the other side of Group Captain Asim’s vehicle for protection. At that point, the alleged suspect, identified as Saad, reportedly engaged in a heated argument with the officer before opening fire on him.

Group Captain Asim sustained critical gunshot wounds and later embraced martyrdom. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Police said the woman informed investigators that the suspect was her office colleague who had offered to give her a ride to work. However, she alleged that he changed the route and attempted to take her to another location against her will, prompting her to resist.

“The Group Captain intervened at the right time and saved me,” the woman told police in her statement.

Law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation and are conducting raids to arrest the suspect.

Group Captain Asim is survived by his widow, a daughter, and a son.
