Toyota and BYD Compared: Why Modern Vehicles Require Careful Use ?

The popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) is growing rapidly in Pakistan, with global brands such as BYD strengthening their presence in the local market. However, automotive experts emphasize that modern EVs should be driven according to their intended design and engineering.
Toyota began manufacturing automobiles on August 28, 1937, while BYD was founded in February 1995. The nearly 58-year gap between the two companies represents not only a difference in history but also decades of automotive engineering, manufacturing expertise, and industry experience.
Experts acknowledge that BYD has achieved remarkable success in a relatively short period, becoming one of the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturers through its advanced battery technology and innovation. However, they caution that this does not mean every EV should be treated like a traditional pickup truck or an off-road vehicle.
According to industry specialists, some drivers in Pakistan tend to use modern electric vehicles on rough terrain, through deep water, and under demanding off-road conditions, even though most of these vehicles are primarily designed for urban roads and everyday driving.
Automotive professionals also point out that spare parts for advanced EVs—including electronic sensors, radar units, cameras, and other sophisticated components—are still expensive and not widely available in Pakistan. As a result, damage caused by misuse or accidents can lead to repair bills worth hundreds of thousands of rupees, with even a single sensor or electronic module costing a significant amount to replace.
Experts advise EV owners to operate their vehicles within the limits for which they were engineered, follow regular maintenance schedules, and avoid unnecessary stress or experimentation. Doing so will help preserve vehicle performance, enhance safety, and protect owners from costly repairs.
