ISLAMABAD (MNN); A security official has been taken into custody and is facing disciplinary action under military law following reports of a scuffle and alleged firing incident at the Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology (SUSIT) campus in Chattha Bakhtawar, Islamabad, sources familiar with the investigation said on Monday.
The incident reportedly occurred during a student protest against the dismissal of a senior university official and other administrative issues.
A video widely circulated on social media appears to show a uniformed individual approaching a group of young men, reportedly SUSIT students, accompanied by a woman said to be associated with the university administration.
According to the footage, an argument escalated into a physical confrontation. The individual was seen holding a stick and exchanging heated words with protesters before a scuffle broke out. As the crowd surrounded him, he allegedly drew a pistol and pointed it towards the gathering.
The woman accompanying him appeared to intervene and attempted to stop him. Moments later, the individual allegedly raised the weapon and fired into the air, prompting police personnel at the scene to surround him.
In another video, a senior Islamabad police official was seen addressing the protesting students and assuring them that the individual had been removed from the university premises and would face strict and prompt action under the relevant military disciplinary procedures.
Sources familiar with the matter said that maintaining discipline and ensuring accountability remained a priority, adding that further action would be taken in accordance with the findings of the inquiry.
No official statement had been issued by Islamabad Police, the security authorities or the university at the time of filing this report.
