PTI Alleges Jail Authorities Defied Court Orders as Imran Khan’s Sisters Denied Meeting at Adiala Jail

ISLAMABAD (MNN); Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday strongly criticized the Adiala Jail administration after the sisters of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan were once again denied a meeting with him despite an Islamabad High Court (IHC) order permitting regular family and legal visits.

Imran Khan’s sisters, accompanied by several senior PTI leaders, arrived at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail in the morning but were not allowed to meet the incarcerated former premier. The development prompted sharp criticism from party leaders, who accused the jail authorities of repeatedly violating court directives.

The IHC has previously allowed Imran Khan to meet family members, lawyers and associates twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, PTI leaders maintain that these directives have largely remained unimplemented for months, restricting access to the former prime minister.

Speaking to journalists outside the prison, Aleema Khan said the restrictions had gradually expanded from party leaders to family members, effectively isolating Imran Khan from visitors. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said the party founder’s family had a legal and constitutional right to meet him and vowed to continue raising the issue.

Advocate Awais Younas Chaudhry, responsible for submitting visitors’ lists to jail authorities, said all individuals whose names had been provided in advance reached the prison but were denied access.

PTI leaders and workers also gathered outside Adiala Jail to express solidarity with the party founder. Senior party leaders said public pressure would continue until court orders regarding prison meetings were fully implemented.

Separately, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram accused the jail administration of providing misleading information to the court regarding power of attorney documents related to Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

According to Akram, the legal team repeatedly attempted to deliver the documents through visits and formal correspondence, but received no response from prison authorities. He claimed that more than 20 power of attorney documents had been submitted over the past six months and that partial compliance occurred only after a contempt petition was filed before the Islamabad High Court.

Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 and is currently serving a 14-year sentence in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. The former premier is also receiving treatment for a diagnosed eye condition, while PTI continues to demand greater access for his family and personal physicians. The government has rejected allegations that appropriate medical care is being denied.
