ISLAMABAD (MNN); Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed strong displeasure over senior government officers arriving at an official August 14 ceremony in horse-drawn carriages, ordering an end to the culture of excessive protocol, showmanship and lavish practices among public servants.
The Prime Minister took serious notice of the incident at the official Independence Day ceremony, where senior officers were seen arriving in carriages. Photos and videos of the scene also drew widespread public criticism.
According to an order issued by the Establishment Division, the Prime Minister described such conduct as an unnecessary display of pomp, privilege and self-promotion, stating that it was inconsistent with the fundamental principle of public service.
The government’s directives emphasised that civil servants hold public office as a trust and must demonstrate humility, restraint, dignity and wisdom in the discharge of their duties.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued clear instructions for the immediate elimination of the growing culture of ostentation, lavishness, personal publicity and excessive protocol among civil and government servants.
Federal secretaries have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the Prime Minister’s instructions across their respective ministries, divisions, attached departments, subordinate offices and autonomous bodies.
The directive marks a clear policy stance against extravagant protocol and displays of privilege by government officers at official functions, reinforcing the principles of modesty and public service.
