Decision to Impose Travel Ban and Place Names on Exit Control List (ECL)
Islamabad: (MNN) Significant progress has emerged in the criminal proceedings against the officers suspended over the tragic deaths of 14 newborn babies in the PIMS incident.
According to sources, a decision has been made to impose a travel ban on the suspended officers, while their names have also been ordered to be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) to prevent any responsible officer from leaving the country.
Sources said a recommendation has also been made to formally register a case against the suspended officers. It is worth noting that the inquiry committee had recommended action against the officers concerned in its report, which includes PIMS Executive Director Dr. Imran Sikandar along with other senior officials.
It may be recalled that last month, a fire broke out in the nursery of the Mother and Child Hospital at PIMS, resulting in the deaths of 14 newborn babies. Following this, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, acting on the inquiry committee’s report, ordered the suspension of eight officials and directed disciplinary and criminal proceedings against them.
Sources say that in light of the ongoing investigation into the deaths of the 14 newborns, action against the suspended officers is expected to become even stricter, with indications that no leniency will be shown toward those responsible.
