Above-normal rainfall forecast for northern Pakistan, near-normal rains in central regions and slightly below-normal precipitation expected in southern areas
Islamabad:MNN
Pakistan is likely to experience an active monsoon spell over the next 40 days, with intermittent rainfall expected in different parts of the country at varying intervals and intensities.
Weather experts suggest that northern and upper parts of Pakistan are expected to receive above-normal monsoon rainfall this season, while central regions, including parts of Punjab, are likely to witness precipitation close to seasonal averages. Southern regions, particularly parts of Sindh and Balochistan, may receive slightly below-normal rainfall.
The forecast indicates that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad and northern Punjab are likely to experience periodic thunderstorms and rain, with the possibility of heavy downpours at isolated locations.
Meteorologists have warned that excessive rainfall may trigger flash floods in local streams, landslides in mountainous areas and urban flooding in low-lying cities, urging relevant authorities to remain vigilant and ensure preparedness.
Agricultural experts believe timely monsoon rains could significantly benefit Kharif crops, including rice, maize, sugarcane and vegetables. However, prolonged or intense rainfall may also pose risks to standing crops.
Citizens have been advised to stay updated with official weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
