Vacant position filled after several months; Zill-e-Huma appointed Chairperson for a three-year term, Establishment Division issues notification

Efforts by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar have resulted in the appointment of a permanent head for the Implementation Tribunal for Newspaper Employees (ITNE), an institution established to safeguard the rights and welfare of newspaper employees and journalists.
According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division, and following the formal approval of the Prime Minister, Zill-e-Huma has been appointed as the Chairperson of ITNE for a three-year term. The key position had remained vacant for several months, causing delays in administrative affairs and a number of important institutional decisions.
Journalists’ organizations and stakeholders from the newspaper industry had repeatedly urged the government to appoint a permanent head so that the tribunal could function at full capacity and effectively discharge its responsibilities.
Sources said that several names were considered for the position of Chairperson. However, after completion of all legal and administrative formalities, the government selected Zill-e-Huma for the role, and the appointment was formally notified by the Establishment Division.
The Implementation Tribunal for Newspaper Employees (ITNE) is an important institution responsible for addressing matters related to newspaper employees and journalists, including the implementation of relevant legal provisions and the protection of their rights. In the absence of a permanent leadership, several important matters had remained pending. With the new appointment, it is expected that the tribunal’s performance will improve and that progress will be made in resolving issues faced by the journalist community.
The journalistic fraternity has welcomed the appointment, expressing hope that the new Chairperson will further strengthen the institution, promote transparency, and take effective measures to safeguard the rights and welfare of newspaper employees and journalists.
