Farhan to Lead Pakistan in T20Is Against Sri Lanka; Shaheen Retains ODI Captaincy

ISLAMABAD (MNN); Sahibzada Farhan has been appointed Pakistan’s T20I captain for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka, while Shaheen Shah Afridi will continue to lead the ODI side in the subsequent tri-series featuring England and Sri Lanka, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced Monday.

The three T20Is will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 9, 11 and 13. Pakistan will then host England and Sri Lanka in a seven-match ODI tri-series, with the opening three matches in Rawalpindi before the tournament moves to Lahore for the remaining league games and the final.

Farhan, who recently captained Pakistan at the Asian Games in Japan, replaces Salman Ali Agha as T20I captain. Salman has been left out of the T20I squad but remains part of the ODI team.

Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi have also been rested from the T20I squad and retained for the ODI assignment.

The 15-member T20I squad includes uncapped all-rounders Razaullah and Mohammad Imran Randhawa. Razaullah impressed on his Test debut against England, scoring 81 off 63 balls, including nine sixes, besides taking four wickets. Randhawa, who also made his Test debut during the England series, has been selected as a medium-pace bowling all-rounder.

Maaz Sadaqat has retained his place following his impressive Asian Games campaign, while Abdul Samad returns to the T20I squad after last playing the format in March 2025.

Hasan Nawaz has also earned a recall after finishing as Pakistan’s leading run-scorer at the Asian Games with 123 runs. He scored 96 off 51 balls, including five fours and seven sixes, in Pakistan’s defeat to India in the final.

Fast bowler Naseem Shah returns to the T20I squad after last representing Pakistan in the format against Sri Lanka in February 2026.

Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub and Abrar Ahmed are among the other established players included in the squad.

The 16-member ODI squad features a more experienced core under Shaheen Shah Afridi, with Babar Azam, Salman Ali Agha, Haris Rauf and Faheem Ashraf included.

Hasan Nawaz and Razaullah have also been named in the ODI squad.

Former Pakistan Under-19 captain Saad Baig has received his maiden ODI call-up after scoring more than 1,000 runs in the 2025-26 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Left-arm wrist-spinner Sufiyan Moqim is another notable addition, while wicket-keeper-batter Mohammad Ghazi Ghori has also been included.

The PCB has also reshaped the bowling coaching setup, with former Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait returning as bowling coach in a consultancy role. Tait previously served as Pakistan’s bowling coach during 2022-23 and replaces Ashley Noffke, who stepped down after the Asian Games to become head coach of the Netherlands.
