ISLAMABAD (MNN); Senior parliamentarian Tahira Aurangzeb, mother of Punjab Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, demonstrated remarkable commitment to her parliamentary responsibilities by ensuring her attendance at the National Assembly session despite road blockades and stringent security arrangements in the federal capital.
According to sources, special security measures had been put in place due to the arrival of distinguished foreign guests, resulting in checkpoints at various locations across Islamabad. Tahira Aurangzeb also encountered obstacles on her way to Parliament but remained determined to attend the session.
She reportedly travelled in an ambulance up to Serena Chowk. However, another checkpoint prevented further movement. A police officer who recognized her offered assistance, and she subsequently rode on a motorcycle with the officer to reach Parliament House in time for the National Assembly sitting.
Later, during proceedings of the National Assembly, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq paid tribute to Tahira Aurangzeb’s dedication and commitment to parliamentary duties.
The Speaker said videos showing her journey to Parliament by ambulance and motorcycle despite the blockades were available with him. He thanked Tahira Aurangzeb for her commitment to Parliament.
He stated that a female member of the House had been stopped at a checkpoint due to security arrangements for the visiting dignitaries. She managed to reach Serena Chowk in an ambulance, but another checkpoint was in place there as well. A police officer familiar with her recognized her, after which she rode with him on a motorcycle to the National Assembly.
“This is the level of commitment shown by our members,” the Speaker remarked.
Upon the Speaker’s request for the member concerned to stand up if present in the House, women parliamentarians identified her as Tahira Aurangzeb. Members of the Assembly thumped their desks in appreciation, while Tahira Aurangzeb thanked Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and fellow lawmakers for their recognition.
