The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has begun preparations to intensify its protest movement over the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, while pressure is mounting on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to lead an Islamabad long march and stage a sit-in at D-Chowk.
According to sources, PTI leadership has been urging the KP chief minister to mobilize party workers for a march towards Islamabad and intensify protest activities. Party leaders believe that the protest movement for Imran Khan’s release should now enter a decisive phase.
Sources say consultations are underway within the party regarding a protest and sit-in in Islamabad for the release of the PTI founder, while party workers have also been asked to remain prepared to reach the federal capital.
Meanwhile, PTI leadership has already announced a protest and long march for September 27. According to sources, consultations are continuing among the party’s central leadership, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and other senior leaders regarding the protest strategy.
Party sources say the final strategy for the protest is expected to be announced in the coming days. Consideration is also being given to organizing party workers and making arrangements for caravans to travel to Islamabad from different districts.
Meanwhile, differences between PTI and the government over Imran Khan’s health and medical facilities remain unresolved. PTI maintains that the party founder should be provided with proper medical treatment and facilities, while the government has continued to reject these allegations.
The PTI says it will continue its protest campaign for Imran Khan’s release and his legal rights, while the party’s future political strategy will be finalized following consultations among its leadership.
